Vision Care for Homeless People has started the Homeless Eye Health Alliance. This is a program that is designed to provide eye care to the less fortunate. Elaine Styles is the head of the charity. She stated that the homeless population in the United Kingdom is growing. She stated that they want to do everything that they can in order to make sure that the vulnerable have their needs taken care of. They will be opening more mobile clinics and regional centers in 2018.

Studies have shown that homeless people are more likely to have eye problems than the general population. They are also more likely to have general health problems due to things like drug abuse, infections, trauma and smoking. Homeless people are three times more likely to have macular degeneration. Health problems like hypertension and diabetes can lead to eye problems. They can also cause blindness.

Vision Care for Homeless People hopes that they will be able to help more homeless people save their eyesight.
